NSW Cuboree 2020 Cancelled
The Cuboree 2020 team has been working closely with authorities including the Regional Emergency Management Officer at Wollondilly Shire and the local Rural Fire Command to monitor, review and discuss emergency planning to ensure we were well prepared for any health, safety and welfare risks and to make appropriate decisions.
In light of the unprecedented fire conditions across NSW throughout December, and the associated air pollution, the NSW Cuboree put heightened risk management and emergency plans in place.
Over the weekend of 21/22 December, the Cuboree Emergency Management Team and Steering Committee received a firm recommendation from the RFS Command and the Regional Emergency Management Officer to cancel Cuboree 2020.
This recommendation was due to the extraordinary resources pressure being placed on our volunteer firefighters, and the risks associated with holding a large event in bushland at this time.
Scouts NSW takes the health and safety of our members at Scouting events very seriously, and we work closely with local authorities so that we have the most up to date and relevant information possible to make informed decisions.
At that time, it became clear that with significant and persistent concerns over bushfires, road closures and air quality, the RFS was facing serious resource pressure and we took the tough decision to cancel the event.
Unfortunately, this means Cuboree 2020 has been cancelled and will not proceed.
While the decision was not an easy one, based on the information and the unprecedented conditions NSW is facing, it was the correct one.
We are implementing our emergency communications plan to ensure all families and attendees have access to the information they need to understand the consequences of the event’s cancellation.
The volunteer Cuboree 2020 team is working through the holiday period to close the event down and to help answer any questions that may arise.
The Cuboree website will be updated as any additional information is available. We will also use our social media channels to update members.
