What a Cuboree Unit looks like

Your Unit is home for the week: where you camp, cook, eat and sleep, with up to 36 Cub Scouts and a team of adults who look after them.

One Unit, at full strength

36 Cub Scouts in 6 Patrols of 6, with a Unit Leader, a Health & Wellbeing Leader, 4 Assistant Unit Leaders and 3 Unit Assistants, plus a Carer for any Cub Scout who needs one.

  • Cub Scout
  • Patrol Leader / Assistant
  • Unit Leader
  • Health & Wellbeing Leader
  • Assistant Unit Leader
  • Unit Assistant
  • Carer (if needed)

Patrols are the Unit's call, but a mix of ages and abilities, led by a Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader, works best: many activities are built for teams of six.

Ground rules

  • The Unit Leader travels on Cuboree transport to and from Cuboree with their Unit. They can't travel independently.

  • One job each. A Unit role is that person's Cuboree job, and they camp with the Unit all week.

  • Adults grow with the Unit. One Line Leader for every six Cub Scouts, always at least a Unit Leader and a Health & Wellbeing Leader.

  • Carers stay with their Cub, in the same Unit, on top of the Unit's adults.

  • Youth Service Leaders have their own Units in the Youth Service Leader sub-camp, never in a Cub Unit.

  • Plan together. All of a Unit's adults plan ahead of the event and attend a pre-Cuboree Shakedown camp.
